Children's Food Festival sponsored by PHS Wastetech
Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 September 2012, 10am - 5pm
Sponsored byThe Children’s Food Festival once again features FREE workshops and activities which encourage children to have fun with their food, explore new tastes and smells, and even learn some new recipes! Based in the gardens of the Brighthelm Centre, this September we’ve got two main activity areas, the first exploring ‘Composting Magic’ with our friends from PHS Wastetech, and the other expanding on our hugely popular Food Bravery activity with the team from Wagamama on North Road. With lots of other hands-on things to do for budding foodies, plus a host of exciting free ticketed workshops, this is an unmissable family day out!

Composting Magic presented by PHS Wastetech
Discover what happens to your food waste and packaging once you’re finished with them through a series of hands on activities that take children on a fun and informative journey involving decision-making and getting your hands dirty!
FREE. Suitable for ages 5-11 although younger children are welcome to take part with the help of a parent. Parents must remain with their children at all times. This activity runs all day as a free flow activity – prior booking is not necessary.
Food Bravery presented by Wagamama
The Food Bravery challenges are back! Wagamama is a family-friendly restaurant and to support the launch of their new kids programme they are running some exciting activities: Children will be challenged to match up and taste some unique Japanese ingredients, followed by the chance to use their favourites to make a noodle dish. For those feeling brave enough, there will be a ‘blind buckets’ food challenge: children are invited to dip their hands into buckets of mystery (and unusual) foods. And noodles will feature in some other guessing games to play! Inspired by delicious Japanese noodle bars + Japanese-inspired flavours, Wagamama launched in 1992 as an exciting and inclusive casual dining experience. Their enduring philosophy remains unchanged; to combine fresh, nutritious food with friendly service and great value for money.
FREE. Suitable for ages 5-11 although younger children are welcome to take part with the help of a parent. Parents must remain with their children at all times. This activity runs all day as a free flow activity – prior booking is not necessary.

Pure People: Raw Chocolate Workshop
Children aged 11+ will see that they really can have their cake and eat it as they join a fun session learning about “Raw Chocolate”. Using cocoa butter and powder in its most unprocessed state and plant-based, healthy sweeteners each child will participate in making their own bag of chocolates that are healthy and delicious. They get to decide how to customise their chocolates with raisins, dried cranberries, goji berries etc and learn about the differences between chocolate found on the high-street and raw chocolate.
